No, but he's going to have contributed a lot of cultural and psychological
makeup.  For that reason, I like to list and trace both.

Then you can tell someone "Here's your bloodline......and here's the people
who made your grandfather who he was."

If you're interested in more than names and dates, it seems like that's
equally crucial to understanding the *people* involved.
