Subject: [ROOTS-L] Adopted Child Entry

How does one enter the data for a child who was born and named at birth, only to have his name changed when adopted to insure continuity?
By that I mean, let us say, that a child was born Ed Smith; he was adopted and renamed John Jones. His children are, of course, named Jones. There exists a lineage for Smith. On an Ancestry Chart (Pedigree) for a Jones child what must one do to link with the Smith lineage?
My gen. program is Family Tree Maker.
Thanks
Don
