Subject: [ROOTS-L] Question for History Buffs

I am having problems finding male ancestors in the 1850 and 1860 censuses -- from ALa; GA; to TX. A cousin found one record for an ancestor in June 1836; Harris Co, GA - muster roll for the Creek War, but we can't find him in the 1840 or 1850 censuses. We are members of Ancestry and have searched under all types of spellings; family members, etc.

I started looking for any online listings of participants of Indian Wars. I realize that they could have been moving across country (we're trying to find out when they actually moved to Texas), but there are several (whose names I won't list now because there are three of us with memberships in paid data bases so I won't waste people's valuable time). I'm just hoping a historical buff might know what was occurring during those years. Are there events that took place during that time that we're missing?

I know the US Mexican War was in 1846, and I haven't searched for records online yet to see if they show up in it; however. it would be great if someone has a site they can share that would list names. Thanks in advance for your help.
