Subject: [ROOTS-L] Reverse immigration

To Merrily in Iowa, who wanted to know if others knew of immigrants returning to their native lands:

Two brothers, Peter Julius ROSIK (my G-Grandfather) and Aegidius ROSIK immigrated to Iowa from the Kingdom of Prussia (then Germany, now Poland) in 1885 and 1893 respectively. They both worked in the coal mines in or near Des Moines, Iowa, and unfortunately after two years in America Aegidius ROSIK was killed in a coal mining accident, whereupon his wife, Kate, and two young children, Aegidius, Jr. and Mathilde returned to Germany.

Years later, as a grown man Aegidius Jr. wrote his Uncle Peter ROSIK some letters from Germany. The letters were found in Peter's things when he died, but by then no one spoke or read German any more. Recently I had the letters translated, and I made contact with Aegidius Jr.s' son, Aegidius III, who was living in Gladbeck, Germany in the very same house his grandfather lived those many years ago! He died very soon after that, but he did write me a letter and sent some pictures.
