Subject: [ROOTS-L] preservation, flags

If you will be mounting, to retain its current condition, a flag can be
gently basted, using unbleached cotton thread, to a special linen cloth
carried in most art and library supply catalogs. In turn that cloth can be
mounted on a stretch frame. Leave a wide enough border of cloth to allow for
acid free matting which does not touch flag. The matting or series of should
allow enough depth to prevent the flag from touching a special UV glass.
There are frames designed to give this same comfort zone. Display it in a
hallway where not much light is used or store it as others have suggested.
There are also plastic tubes, to cover fluorescent bulbs, which block UV
rays which they emit.
Until you are certain what you wish to do, lay it on unbleached muslin
(cotton), roll and place it into an acid free tube.
I will mount my, not rare, 48 star flag on unbleached muslin and mount it on
a stretcher frame. I want to enjoy it in my living space.
