Subject: [ROOTS-L] Armistead name

In reference to the request about the name Armistead, the name comes from the German Armistadt.  There were Armistadts in the area of Hesse in Germany.  One immigrant came here and settled in part of Gloucester County now known as Mathews County, and the name changed to Armistead.  There were probably many others.
