Subject: [ROOTS-L] Social Security
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

I agree that this subject should be dropped because we just keep going
around and around. But may I just tell you that several years ago my daughter had
her car broken into in NYC and among other things her purse was stolen. At
that time our insurance # was my husband's SS #. The NYC police told us that
within 48 hours that # would be sold atleast 3,000 to 4,000 times to illegal
aliens who wanted to get green cards and there was really nothing they could
do about it. They traced the address to a tenament building where there were
at least 30 people living in each apartment. We ended up with $ 2600 cell
phone bill ( all calls made out to Santa Domingo or some such place and all in a
matter of 8 days) which thankfully we didn't have to pay, and 9 different
attempts to get credit cards. So better safe than sorry....be very careful with
your SS #'s. Nancy
