What we "should" all do -- I think it is annually, but I don't recall, perhaps every couple of years, is
ask for an update on our accounts. If there is more money in there than we should have (contributions, I
mean) a red flag should be raised.

Seems that once you reach "a certain age" they send you this automatically? How many people actually look
at it!

|
|
|It appears that the illegal use of older SS numbers is greater
|than we have
|thought possible. My husband received his card in a New England state
|before 1950 and still has the original. As a school bus driver
|in Texas he
|gets unemployment benefits for the vacation days. A few months ago his
|benefits were witheld until he was interviewed and was told
|three other
|persons hold a similar card with the same number but as he was able to
|provide the original information on the oldest issued card his
|was judged
|genuine. We would like to learn what if anything will be done
|about the
|counterfeits but so far know nothing more. Perhaps we all
|should check with
|Social Security for fraudelent use of our numbers? Regards Ida
|Kretschmar
