I believe it has been there all along. When I went to school we had to tell 
or write
our family history as we knew it from our parents.
My children had to and so did my grand children and that may be just a part 
of 
what you are talking about, It would be so nice if the children could get 
interested
in genealogy and knowing how and where to look for their families.
