Subject: [ROOTS-L] Happy News :)
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

Like the rest of you, I've spent countless hours doing research into my
family tree / history. Within the last week I hit the jackpot at least
in my opinion. I've learned that some of my ancestors had some
remarkable places in history.

I only have time for a quick summery of a few things I've learned recently.

At least one of my ancestors *fought in the Revolutionary War* and was a
Corporal in the Pennsylvania Militia. He saw duty shortly after the
Battle of Trenton, in February of 1777. His family has an extensive
history of service to our country both before and after the
Revolutionary war.

One of my ancestors was one of *George Washington's Field Generals*. He
served with Washington during the time that they were encamped at Valley
Forge Pennsylvania.

One of my ancestors was the *First Speaker of the U.S.House of
Representatives* after the Constitutional government was organized in 1782.

At least 4 of my ancestors *fought in the Civil War.*

At least 2 of my ancestors were part of the *Underground Railroad* and
they hid slaves in a root house.

I've been fortunate to have been able to contact other family members
who are also interested in our family tree.

I feel like my hours of research have paid off in many ways.

Keep digging, you never know what you might find,
John in WI
