Subject: [ROOTS-L] Kitchen appliances

WOW! I googled history +"electric mixer" and found the following page...

http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blkitchen.htm

Ivar Jepson invented Sunbeam Mixmaster, which he patented in 1928, and first mass marketed in 1930.

I was particularly interested because I remember an electric dishwasher that was in the house I grew up in. The house was built in 1929 by the previous owners and they apparently had used the machine. I don't remember that we ever used it...even by 1936 when we bought the house it looked like an antique. BUT, that's what it was..an electric dishwasher..it was a big metal box about 2x4 feet that stood on spindly legs at about the height of the drainboard. It opened from the top. I am probably off on the dimentions..I was pretty little at the time but I think that's close.

We also had a Mixmaster about the same time.
