Subject: [ROOTS-L] Civil War Unit Files?

Hi~
I saw the reference to Carol and the Civil War Unit Files.  I'm trying  to 
find out more information on my ancestor.  I have a picture of him in a  Union 
Civil War Uniform with the number 84 on the crosspiece.  He lived in  Brooklyn. 
 I've had little success finding his records.  I believe the  name to be 
Robert McDowell except the Robt McDowell in the direct line was born  in 1852 in 
Brooklyn.
 
If anyone might have any ideas, please e-mail me off the list and I'll send  
you a copy of the picture.
