Subject: [ROOTS-L] Vital Records Notice

Good afternoon folks,

I have just taken note about what some states are doing for death record
requests and this is not good for genealogists. I just got a "Certification
of Death" from Missouri and all it contained was a brief transcription of
the original death record. The only information it contained was the name
of the decedent, the date and place of death and cause of death. There was
no mention of parent's names or any other pertinent data which a genealogist
usually looks for on a death certificate. I guess the next time I send for a
death record from Missouri I will as for an exact copy in certified form
from the originally filed death record and ask them not to send an
abstracted copy.

This is happening in other states also so it might be needful for each
requestor to emphasize what they are requesting upon the time of order.
