Subject: [ROOTS-L] EXCELLENT SURNAME SITES TO SEARCH

Hi, Rooters! I know someone has already submitted one of the below, but
just
covering bases to now share both. Both websites are great for searching.
--------------------------
Below are downloadable Gedcoms from throughout the U.S. separated by
State/County/Surname.

http://gedcomindex.com/Countries/us.html

What is 'missing' from the above is a list of all surnames associated
within the listed surname - you will see this yourself if you surf the
above.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I stumbled into the below website, and am still not sure just how I did
[maybe it was 'meant to be'!]
- lots of surnames.

Gedcom is in the FTM format for downloading even if you don't have the
FTM Program, according to the website, although I do use the FTM format.

This website does have associated family surnames included in the main
surname file. For instance, if you are looking for the SMITH surname,
you don't have
to download all the SMITHs Gedcoms listed, but can see what the
associated surnames to a particular SMITH is included, i.e., so you
don't have to download all the SMITHs, unless
you want to.

I suggest you 'bookmark' or 'favorite' both so you can search, your
time permitting. Both take time to search - gotta be a bit patient.
Good Searching - Good Luck!
