ELLIS ISLAND New Page 1 Hi all - This may be considered off topic - if so - my apologies. This is such an important issue to me that I just had to get the word out. Last week I had the pleasure of going to Ellis Island for a New York Library Association's Ethnic Services Round Table Meeting. and met with the Oral Historian, Dr. Janet Levine. She explained that out of the thousands of people who came through the portals of Ellis Island during the years 1892-1954 and there are only 200 documented oral histories and she would love to have more. I asked her if she would like to get the word out about this fact - and she said YES! So - if you have any relatives who came through Ellis Island and who is able to talk about their experience - please contact Dr. Levine at janet_levine@nps.gov . Perhaps she will ask to meet with your relative and document their story via an audio recording. If you do not have a living relative - but have stories, photos, documents, etc. on Ellis Island - Dr. Levine would like to hear from you too. What a way to honor your family's legacy!
