I do a lot of searching in Vernon and Monroe counties that are neighboring counties of La Cross and this has worked for me. You can also find these cities at the message boards at Genealogy.com and Rootsweb, and other researchers are the most helpful people in the world when it comes to genealogy. Most of them will be happy to try to find bits of data for you without charge, but they do remind you to pass the favor on to others when the opportunity arises. Good Luck!
