As many times as I've clicked on that orange circle, I've never noticed the 
"Page Tools" (duh...it's amazing what you can find if you just look, 
right?).

I have noticed recently there have been "alternate" spellings in 
parentheses. It helps.

I agree with you about taking the time to submit the information of which 
we're certain. I feel as "listers" we have a bit of an obligation to do so: 
isn't that a big part of what these lists are all about? Besides, on a 
selfish note, if one has to go back to that census for some reason, it will 
be easier to locate if the alternate is noted, right?
