I have been searching a lot of census records the past few weeks and
don't see a lot of difference between the old and new thus far. I do find
having access to Ancestry census at home has been a tremendous asset to my
research.

One thing I continue to notice is that where/when I compare families
from census year to census year there are quite a few indexing errors. Some
of these are transcription errors and some seem to be the spelling of the
census taker.

I have tried where I am reasonably sure of the correct spellings, to
send in corrections. If we all try to do this consistently, it WILL be a
help to our fellow researchers. While it is great to find a family in one
census, it certainly ismore helpful to find them in several to get a feel
for accuracy and find children born in later decades.

Ancestry has made it easy to send in corrections. Now it is up to us to
help correct errors. Some of these are simply matters of interpretation,
but we all gain if alternate spellings are offered.

Margaret Scheffler
