Subject: [ROOTS-L] Coat of Arms vs Wappen

The person Knaur seaks a family shield etc. The person states that they are of Germanic origin. This means WAPPEN is the correct name. A wappen is for the family and no restrictions on its use are in play . The family crest is on the helmet and the persons shield shows their intrest . Some cases they are both the same. In my own situation my family is Weber so the crest on the helmet is a weavers shuttle and on the shield is the stone masons tools as our knight preferred. On my wifes family wappen the helmet shows a Raven and on the shield also a Raven which I find on many Prusian wappen ( even a footbsll team) Her family name is HAUPT. In Germany cities, business clubs all have Wappen.
