Subject: [ROOTS-L] RE: Ancestry "New Look"

ANSWER TO BELOW:

Colleen,
I had the same problem finding my Family Tree and a very nice lady assisted
me in locating it so will pass the instructions along. The problem
is......Ancestry has two sites that read Family Trees and they give different results.

Original Instructions from a Great Lady:

Okay---take a deep breath and start again. Start here:
_http://www.ancestry.com/_ (http://www.ancestry.com/) .

Way up at the top of the page where it says Ancestry.com and just below that
where you see the masthead (or top toolbar if you want to call it that)
Where it says:
Home, My Ancestry, Search, Family Trees etc..... across the top. Click on
FAMILY TREES.

Your landing page will be here:

_http://www.ancestry.com/trees/_ (http://www.ancestry.com/trees/)

On this page look at the column on the right side of the page where it says
FAMILY TREE RESOURCES and find the link that says SEARCH ANCESTRY WORLD TREE
and click the link. That takes you here:

_http://www.ancestry.com/trees/awt/main.aspx_
(http://www.ancestry.com/trees/awt/main.aspx)

This is the box where you need to type in

Her answer to the different results was:
NOTE: This is the one that reads Family Trees in the regular Search area
In the one search--the one where you are finding the NEW information, you
are searching the combined AWT and WC database which is updated nightly. In
the other search you are searching OWT which isn't updated on any regular basis
(although when it DOES get updated it does include WC/AWT files). Since OWT
hasn't been updated in a long time--you are getting the old info in that
search.

Hope this helps......have a great day,
Gretchen

ORIGINAL QUESTION:

From: "Colleen Graham" <ctg3@prodigy.net>
Subject: Ancestry "New Look"

As far as I am concerned, the new look is a complete disaster. I don't
think I am the only one who is extremely upset about this. I have invested a lot
of time and lots of $$ in Ancestry. You can't even view my family tree
anymore. I tried a sample search of census records for someone, it came up with
zero hits. This is a mess, and I don't know how to handle it. Help!!!

Colleen, Reseda CA
