Subject: [ROOTS-L] Ancestry.com census searches simplified?

I just found out that you can search ancestry.com on a specific census for only a first
name and a location. I have an ancestor with so many possible spellings of his last name
and 9 soundex codes for those names. To find him any census using all of the soundex and
then all of the different spelling of the surname gives me thousands of pages to look at.

I just did a search on 4 census years for a specific city using his first name and then
using his middle name. I used no surname. I got 150 pages of typed names and only had
to look closely at the ones with the beginning letter of his surname. This is compared
to 6000+ pages of actual census records that are handwritten and not always clear.

Just thought some of you might not be aware of this.

Good researching, Bobbie
