I'm fairly new to this list...maybe I shouldn't post, but I feel pretty
strongly about the issue of sharing...

Maybe I'm naive, but I think that having some idea of who is working on your
lines and what they 'might' have found is better than no information at all.
I consider submitting an important aspect in using the internet to 'share'
information. Not all of it is correct, but then, even not all of original
records are always 'correct'. Our information can only be as good as what we
know 'at the time'. I wish more people who submitted would submit their
sources as well so that you have some idea of what made them think the way
they do...family lists without sources are okay for maybe getting a clue as
to where to look, but sure don't tell you much about how seriously to take
someone's data.

My main lines are being sourced with many references to original records of
all kinds. But, being a relative Newbie at all of this genealogy stuff, I
haven't had time to do the same on "allied families" but I do have the
information in my file with a source notation of whos gedcom, or rootweb
database, or AFN on familysearch that I got the information from. Those who
know of corrections to these lines, tell me and I post their corrections and
their contact information so that others can share their information and get
into contact with them as well.

Maybe I don't understand the genealogy community too well, but if all of us
waited until we had the time to search for every source in every allied
family in order to post information wouldn't that make us just takers
instead of givers who are trying to share what we 'conclude or hope to be
true' with others working on the same problems?

Just my thoughts :)
