Kathie is absolutely right. I wonder how many genners out there who could have helped or answered a question but went ahead and just deleted the email without reading it because of a subject line that offered no clue as to what is needed.

Right now the very next two emails on my screen are just what she is referring to:
Roots: Digest Vo6 #304
Roots: Digest Vo6 #305

A little further down is an excellent example of how to put in a subject line when referring to a digest and a number:
Roots: Digest Vo6:297 Help with writing a post

Remember, if we are on this list in general it is to help others and to be helped when we need it. So help us to help you. Put in a decent subject line that gives us an idea what you need. Good Samaritans we try to be, mind readers we are not.

Good luck in your hunting for ancestors and answers.
Joanie

  Subject: [ROOTS-L] SUBJECT LINES!

People, people, people, please for the love of God, put in a decent
SUBJECT in the SUBJECT line!! When you are a DIGEST subscriber on ANY
list, you need to fill in the subject [delete DIGEST in it] to show
what message you are actually REPLYING to.

How can you expect any of us to bother reading your messages if you do
not do this? I just got THREE messages in a row from ROOTS list and
all with Re: DIGEST 'blah, blah, blah" in them.

The MOST important part of a QUERY is WHAT you put in the SUBJECT line
which should be a BRIEF DESCRIPTION of what your message is about.

OK I am now stepping off my SOAPBOX.........Thanks and happy hunting.
