Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: KURTZROCK immigration request answered

I haven't received a response to this message sent privately and wondered if
it might have ended up in a dead letter box. It seems important to get this
to the poster, so I'm resending it here in the open list.

Any data on them would be appreciated. I don't have access to Ancestry.com
- just c
The ancestor I am seeking is an immigrant from Germany, about 1860 or
thereabouts: Heinrich (Henry) KURTZROCK. He settled in Alleghany Co., PA. I am
also seeking WINKLEVOSS (WINKLEVOH) - also from Germany but I don't have a clue
 as to when immigration occurred.

I see a One World entry for both your surnames, with their children. Did
you enter them?

This is exactly what I ordered through ILL. It unfortunately was nothing
more than an index, not the full record I hoped.

I saw where Henry married Winklevoss. She was born in PA, so perhaps
something is available earlier for her father.

Funny, there isn't a single Winklevos/s in immigration and only one in
census...Henirich, born in Germany about 1860 and living in Illinois.

Ah, this is interesting. The One World Tree item is wrong. Margaret was
born in Germany, not PA. Her parents may not have migrated at all.

So if and when you order the migration film through the LDS or whether you
write to the NARA and get a printed copy of that page, you may find so much
more information on this family.

You should have a fun time with this. German records are available at the
LDS to order. I did check the IGI and Ancestral File but Heinrich Kurtzrock
shows up only in the USA 1880 census. You can, however, order film from Hesse
in that time period and search church records for more information..
No, I'm not LDS, but I've used their facility for many years and appreciate
their efforts to gather data around the world. They are very helpful and our
center, at least, does have a German language expert and one who has
researched film and actually traveled to Germany to research.
