Frontier Religion and its Genealogical Effects Workshop

LLCGS 30th Anniversary Family History Workshop on October 14th will be
presented by Dr. George K. Schweitzer, Ph.D., Sc.D. Dr. Schweitzer
will be presenting three unique, informative genealogical workshops.
One of the three workshops is titled:
Frontier Religion and Its Genealogical Effects.

An in-costume presentation of the 1800-40 religious revival on the
American frontier and its impact on genealogical research will be
explained in considerable detail. The outline for the "Frontier
Religion and Its Genealogical Effects" workshop includes the following
six areas:

1.	Importance of religious affiliation to genealogical research.

2.	Major colonial denominations and their geographical locales:
Congregational, Quaker, Lutheran, Presbyterian/Reformed, Episcopal,
others; the first great awakening.

3.	Early U.S. nationhood: the new nation, its civil and spiritual
religions, characteristics of frontier religion, implications for
record keeping

4.	The Second Great Awakening: beginning in New England, NY, and KY;
revivals and camp meetings, personal conversion and its
manifestations, missionary activity, widespread religious ferment and
foment.

5.	The new majority churches: Methodist, Baptist, Christian, Latter
Day Saints, divergent trends, and resurgent Catholicism.

6.	Powerful implications for genealogical research: record relevance,
record keeping, record presentation, cluster construction, and group
migration.

Pre registration cost is $10 for LLCGS members and $15 for
non-members. The luncheon cost is $9.75 and should be reserved at the
time of registration. Event registrar is Cynthia Monroe and our
