I didn't like Family Tree Maker 6 either.  I switched to using Millennia
Legacy 6.0 Family Tree.  The Millennia has features for a pro.  It could be
confusing to those who are not really into genealogy or computers.  If you
are looking for serious software, this is the best I've seen.

It also imports gencom files from other software easily.
