Subject: [ROOTS-L] Ancestry.com 800 number
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

If one has trouble with a site and access after they have paid for this
or any other service, it only makes sense to contact the company by PHONE
and in a POLITE, tactful, manner try to resolve the issue.

Email is generally a poor way to resolve billing or computer access
issues or anything else that may be complicated. If I have trouble with my
credit card or a hospital bill, I certainly would not try to resolve the
issue by email, particularly if I had written once and did not get a
satisfactory response.

Ancestry has an 800 number. I suggest anyone having a REASONABLE
complaint to contact the company in regular business hours. I am sure they
will address a reasonable problem. They may likely restore any lost time on
a subscription if the problem is theirs. But the person with the problem
needs to call. If the first call does not get someone as helpful as one
wishes, try again. Follow through is important.

ANCESTRY PHONE: 1-800-262-3787

Before calling I would have the credit card bill available, know how
much you were charged and be able to tell EXACTLY how long any problem has
been occurring. Is it 10 days or 3 months or what? If you had computer
problems along the way, your problem could be as simple as an unrecognized
password.

In the few problems I have had with that company in 10 or so years, I
have ALWAYS had them make an effort to correct any problem. In fact I
remember only a very few companies in years that did not try to be
accommodating when mistakes had been made.
