Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Genealogy Software

I use Family Tree Maker and have liked it up until Version 2006. Now it
looks live every other genealogy program out there. But I keep it as I have found
it is the easiest for me to input stuff into. But that could be because I am
familiar with it. I teach a class at the Oregon Genealogical Society on
Genealogical Software so have tried just about all the free stuff out there. Two
of my requirements are how easy is it to put stuff into and how easy to
travel from one place to another. Most of them are very easy to do both with. I
have found that I like the reports that can be printed out from Roots Magic
and Ancestral Quest the best. They are much nicer then Family Tree Maker. PAF
and Legacy are both free down loads and are nice programs. So I tell my class:
go to Cyndislist.com and try the free down loads, pick your favorite one or
two and go by those. There are a lot out there and if you are doing research
in Europe there are programs out there to help you with that also.

Joe, I hadn't seen anything on Family Tree Legends so will check that out
also. Thanks for the heads up on that.
