Subject: [ROOTS-L] info you did not put online

im not trying to keep this going, i also have had this happen to me, it is
on rootsweb and ancestry.com. i was originally quite upset. what im upset
about is, not everyone cares about other peoples information.
genealogy is about shareing our infomation. and not all people ask you if
its okey, for yours to be there, actually there is nothing to be done about
it, unless the site will remove your information.
you or i cannot stop what somebody else does, " if we share with somebody"
or if " another person doing thier tree," knows us "
which is what happened with me, in both instances, i shared and was known,
the person i shared with, never replied and never took it off, the other was
a sister in law, she left it on,it stopped with me and my husband. she had a
note that no other info on our now liveing family would not be given out,
and i had to be contacted for the rest.
there is no guarantee, that a site system, will automaticaly, not add info
past a certain date, even tho the site states this is so, my name is on both
sites, roots and ancestry, com. ive not put my info online yet.
and of course all of us. i think knows this, unless we are just beginning
genealogy. and yes, we get quite upset at this, but no reason to get upset
with someone, who just had this happen to them
i think the sites should contact the person who owns the file, and ask them
to remove the information in question, and if they dont, than not allow the
info to be viewed untill they do,or take the whole file off line and held
elsewhere, untill the person contacts the site to correct things.
i also think that regardless of filters, i also think that if i want my
name or my childrens names to be showed, but not thier other info, that ,that
should be allowed, otherwise, what is the sense of all this, if everything
stops at 1920. dead or alive till now. untill the internet, genealogy for me
was hard and expensive. i am gratefull for the internet.im sure its shorten
my work.by many years and the expense less, and info i probly would never
have found.if not for other peoples works, and advise and help.
rebecca
