Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Sloppy Requests!!
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

As a list admin for several Rootsweb lists, I can tell you that many
people do not bother to read the welcome message that is automatically
sent out to each and every subscriber of the list that they joined.

Many of the list admins compose their own tailor made FAQ's while others do not.

But in the end, it is up to anyone who subscribes to a list to be sure
they know how and what is applicable to post to these lists as far as
what the list topic is, etc.

But I can tell you from experience that these guidelines usually work
best as a rule of thumb.

Full Name of ancestor you are researching [LAST/SURNAME in CAPITAL LETTERS]

Area: STATE/COUNTRY, COUNTY/REGION
TIME FRAME: such as: b.1850 KY d. 1910 IA

A proper SUBJECT in the SUBJECT line.

Not [DIGEST], Re: or NO SUBJECT.

The SUBJECT line should CALL ATTENTION to what your message is about.

Such as Wm. Brice HARRISON b.1813 KY>IA>NE - need obit

And by all means, don't include the ENTIRE message that you are
replying to! Just include a small portion of it and don't include the
taglines from the list in that message.

Keep it SHORT, SIMPLE & SWEET. You just might make that cousin connection!
