Patricia, you are a little vague to be able to give you anywhere near a
specific answer -- 
Yes, there are death records for those who die in prison.  The state
dictates that all deaths be reported.
Yes, penitentiaries do have cemeteries --- example, Huntsville TX.

Not knowing the state or the time frame --??
Have your checked the SS Index?
Have your  checked for a death certificate with the state?
If you do not know the penitentiary, have you used the Institutional
Soundex?
