Does anyone have information about the process of  obtaining Citizenship for 
a man enlisted in the 7th U.S. Cavalry in  1888 ? . Are records available 
through the  military.?
Census of him, my paternal grandfather, just says  arrival U.S.  1883, and 
under naturalized, Yes. The record for the wife, my paternal  grandmother,  
recites that she arrived in the U.S. in 1881 and was  Naturalized in 1893. They 
lived in Buffalo, NY in those years. What was the  procedure since Citizenship 
was gratuitous for her in that era?.
 
Any information will be happily received and appreciated.
