I could be mistaken, but I believe I read a few weeks back that Heritage
Quest would be phasing out all of its subscriptions to genealogical
societies and instead concentrate on services to libraries.

It certainly is good to join the NEHGS and the NYGBS for what they have
available, but I would not join them ONLY for their current ability to offer
Heritage Quest to their members. Like with Godfrey a few months back, all
these societies may be dropped by HQ or priced out of subscriptions when
the current contracts expire.

Since many public libraries offer at home access to people they serve,
anyone wanting access to Heritage Quest should check first with their own
library and larger library system. They should also advocate for HQ if it
is not available to them. Public money tends to flow where people ask for
services.

....The NYGBS also has Heritage Quest and will until sometime in 1907 when
the contract expires. It's not as expensive as the NEGS. I think about $60 a
year.
