How about William's sister's son? What is Lou's maiden name? Could this be an adopted nephew? Do you have a marriage certificate for William and Lou? You'd know her maiden name then. Have you checked out 1870 census for siblings of both people? There is a Darnell that married in about the 1850's in Cannon County.
