Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Engbrecht (of Engelbrecht)

No, it is not "eng" that is the basis for the word, but due to Kristoffer
Kruken and Ola Stemshaug, Norsk Personnamnsleksikon it is Engelbrecht that
is the original word. Most possibly "Engel" is "Angel" (anglo-saxon) the
name of the people later invading british islands and the word for "Beraht".

The given name Engel also has a norse root in Ongull (fishing hook)
