I'm researching an F. S. Irby (I believe it's listed as P. S. Irby in the cemetery records) who is buried in Woodlawn. Susan From: Carole Knowlton Subject: Elmira Prison Camp Approximately 3,000 Confederate soldiers who died at the Elmira Prison Camp were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery by a former slave named John W. Jones. According to some historical reports, Mr. Jones wrote letters to some of the families in regard to the burials.
