Cindy --

The cross with the crown is usually associated with York Rite. Their web
site is: _http://www.yorkrite.com/_ (http://www.yorkrite.com/)

Looking at the home page there is a link to Commanderies but you need to
select a state first. Suggest you put in the state the grave is in and see if
there is a Mount Olivet or Zion Commandery. If not, I would contact York Rite
to see if there was such a Commandery in existence at the time your
gggrandfather lived.

Hope this helps.

JON

My gg grandfather died in 1900. When I visited his grave this summer, all
of the plants had been removed from the front of the stone, and there was an

iron marker 9" by 9" half buried in the ground. I need help identifying
the
markings on the marker.

The writing on the marker is as follows" Mount Olivet Commandery Zion. In

the center of the marker is a cross with a crown around it. I can't read
the
Latin words, as they are worn down. The symbols on the outside of the
marker are clockwise as follows: a cross, a hand, a heart or shield with
nails
through it, a dove or bird of some kind, a crossbones and skull, a zigzag
that
looks like a symbol for mountains with a figure at the top, a compass with
a
capital G (I'm told that is the Masonic symbol), and a snake. The cemetery

people had no information on the marker. I copied the symbols and took it
to a
Mason, but he didn't know anything about the symbols.

Also, any suggestions as to how to preserve it on the grave site?

Thanks,
Cindy Walker

I would appreciate any help that anyone can give to me.
