Subject: [ROOTS-L] Old Soldiers Home records

A query about a veteran who died in Hampton, VA Old Soldiers Home in 1940
led to the answer that those records are being held at the Mid Atlantic
National Archives in Philadelphia. (Thanks, John.) It is online. There is also an
online index to veterans buried in veterans cemeteries in Hampton. This is
not part of the National Archives site. I don't know how comprehensive it is
since the query had a name that was not on the index but she does have the
full information on him.

The "home" is on the grounds of the VA Hospital in Hampton and is actually
several buildings housing both male and female veterans.

For a few years I've attempted to get an uncle's records from an an old
soldiers home in OK with no luck. Now I know I should write to a central
location.
