This is the only way I know to get the copy of the origional Social Security
application. I sent for one recently and received it in about six weeks. I
was trying to see if this could possibly my mother's brother. It was a shot
in the dark but it paid off. I was able to verify that he was actually my
uncle. What is sad is that He didn't die until 1978 but mother had no
contact with him and told us that he died at Pearl Harbor. He must have had
a lot of life experiences that he could have shared because he lived in John
Day Oregon at the time he filed for Social Security. From what I have been
able to find online that is an area included in a state preserve where
historical digs take place. Back to the ordering of records, I have been
able to get a wealth of information from the ones I have ordered. It Has
been well worth the $27.00.

Subject: [ROOTS-L] Social Security Application, Need Answers

Hello List,

I apologize up front this subject has been discussed before, but I am in
need of some answers.

I am going to send for my great-grandmother's original social security
application. I printed out the form that was on ancestry.com and I also
know that the fee is $27.00.

I have 2 questions:

1. Is this the only way to get this information? Or is there another
avenue that might be cheaper?

2. How long does it usually take to get the document after I send in my
request?

Thanks in advance for any help.

In Christ,
