Subject: [ROOTS-L] Smuggler Kelly

My gggrandfather was "King of the Smuggler's" Lawrence Kelly who smuggled opium and Chinese people from 1875-1910 in the Puget Sound area. Lawrence Kelly was Irish born around 1836. He joined the Confederate army in Louisiana at the start of the war, supposedly fought with the Louisiana Tigers. Later he stated he partook in smuggling because he never wanted to work an honest day for the stars and stripes. He left the Puget Sound area sometime after 1911 claiming he was headed to a Confederate Solder's home to die. He was never heard from again and my search of the Louisiana vitals turned up nothing. Anybody know any other searches I can do, other Confederate Soldier's homes etc? Thanks Kris DayVincent
