Rootsweb.com has a Freebmd for English vital records-b=birth, m=marriage, 
d=death...it's incomplete, but its' free. this is also available for a fee, 
I think it's at 1837online.com. it's complete there, but you can spend alot 
of money just trying to find the right record.
it's possible to order the record directly from Freebmd-click on the number 
to the right of the name, then scroll to the bottom of the screen and read 
the instructions
