Hi...Austin Brown here...just two easy questions... Was the Penobscott/Sedgewick area of Maine ever called New Castle in the 1700's? What was the old formula that families in the 1700's used to name their children? Something like first born son for grandfather..second born for father..3rd born for oldest brother? I know it's something like that..I'm doing my Brown genealogy for Mount Desert Island, Maine..I have John Brown b.1784 and brother James Brown b.1787 showing-up on MDI with their father John Brown around 1790-1800...No clue where they came from, but i do have the order and names of both children of John and James so i figure i can look for who may be the father..mother yada yada...Actually there is a record of intent to marry Betsey Grindle b.Sedgewick recorded in Penobscott for John Brown.. thanks Austin Hill Brown
