Subject: [ROOTS-L] Jas. B. Shackelford's Ga. plantation
Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2006 22:10:42 -0800

Does anyone know of a list of slaves held by Jas. B. Shackelford, Jr. on
his plantation, known as "The Pines"? It was located in Early County,
GA? Does such a list exist? Do any records of this plantation exist?
Any help would be appreciated.

You might try the Early County Historical society There will be a slave
census for 1850 and 60 and the mans own census for earlier years.

These are the only two (pasted below) for Early County and it isn't your man.

Now in 1860 it is very different. There are many slaves listed in his name
(rather to a James Shackelford, in fact 231 that werent counted in his name in
1850. It might be he in 1840 in Harris County and he only hold 8 slaves, quite
a jump!

1840

in Early County is this one and he holds NO slaves

In 1850 there is a James in Early RE worth 12,000
