Subject: [ROOTS-L] Census Records
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

One of the census editions that is going to be very controversial is the
2000 census. If one remembers, for those of us who filled them out, there were
at least two formats - long and short. Not every household got the long
form, which I am led to believe asked a lot of questions and not every household
got one. I know I asked around our cul-de-sac and I think only 1 family got
it. The rest of us got the short form. There weren't many questions on the
short form. I forgot to make a photocopy of it before I mailed it for my own
records. Wouldn't you know!

Anyway, I know that my husband and I are on the form, one of his sons from
his first marriage who was then living with us and my mom. That will be the
last census she will appear on because she died in November 2004 at the age of
96. I have the 1930, 1920 and 1910 census she was listed in - the 1910 she
was 2 years old and her sister was just a baby. It's going to be interesting
to figure out where she was living in 1940 when that one comes out as she
was either in Idaho, Washington or California and working. I suspect
California as she was dating my father about that time. But if we are lucky enough to
have Heritage Quest with its ability to call up all people with the
potential name match all over the United States, it ought to be quick work to locate.
 Hurray for Heritage Quest!
