Subject: [ROOTS-L] Army serial numbers.

I have letters from my uncle during WW2. He didn’t use a prefix. I joined in
1954. My prefix was RA 17. I was regular army and 17 years old. NG was the
National Guard prefix and US was the draftees prefix. I made warrant officer
and the prefix was W. Commissioned officers had O as a prefix. I wore brown
boots in the beginning. :-) I don’t know if that helps.
