My hubby was in Korean War 1950's. He enlisted in the Air Force. He says he
only had AF in front of his serial number. He is not aware that there were
other letters used. The AF letters were seldom used - usually just his serial
number.

Hi, this was the comment I made...but after reading other posts, I see that
most comments are regarding the ARMY. Also the web site that was so
informative was re: ARMY.

My hubby was NCO but still had enlisted. There was an Airmans' Club,
Officers' Club and NCO Club. I asked him if he had ever heard a verbal comment or
saw a written comment re: differentiating between enlisted and drafted.

He said, "NO, ALL the men in the AF and Navy were ENLISTED. THERE WERE NO
DRAFTEES in either the AF or the Navy." I didn't know this, since I was just
the AF wife. :)

This was after the WWII, when the AF was no longer the called the Army Air
Corps. He thinks around 1947 that they split. This is recent history for some
of us, but still an interesting discussion regarding many of our
grandparents's lives. Nellie.
