I kept hoping I'd see someone else answer this ... but since no one has -

I don't have any additional information or references to add. However, in
my volumes (Genealogical Publishing Company rpt. 1981) I note that they
acknowledge permission from the original publisher, the New Haven Colony
Historical Society.

I know that a lot of people pick things up and move them over in part or
whole to their websites - often without permission. This has happened to me
and had I known about it prior to being placed 'out there' I would have said
no for several reasons. So my question is only, since this is copyright
material, do you have permission? I'd make that request from GPC before I
publish -- (putting it on the Internet IS publishing and carries the same
rights and responsibilities as the 'hard copy' published word)

I believe we are beginning to see some enforcement of the copyright laws
when we find others using our material without clear and specific approval
so it follows that we should seek such permission to 'copy' and use. And
when one receives such, be sure it is noted on the website that permission
has been given and by what entity and date.

You will note that these volumes were made up from families originally
published in the New Haven Genealogical Magazine ..... I'd certainly try
to access these to see if there are any clues; Jacobus may or may not have
reprinted the articles verbatim. If you read the "Additions and
Corrections" in the volumes you will see that Jacobs plainly stated that "It
is regrettable that there are any errors to need correction. ... " New
material and corrections, with references, from current research would no
doubt be welcomed and well received by descendants of those treated in these
volumes -- as well as by the New Haven Colony society.

I'd also try contact the Society to see if they have any original notes from
the magazine publications, or by Jacobus as he compiled his volumes, in
their vertical files. And they might have Jacobus' family information and
can tell you specifically about his Lines family.
http://members.aol.com/dtrofatter/nhcol.htm I've not tired to discover if
he wrote a family history on his family --- might ask about that as well.
