Subject: [ROOTS-L] when I started looking

In 1999 my children ask me to try again to find out about their great
grandmother's Indian lineage.... she was at least 1/2 Cherokee (some
family members say she was full blood) I went to the library to check
the books of the Indian Rolls.. Didn't find her in them but while
looking around, in the genealogy books, I saw one titled "The Hoyt
Family. That being my maiden name, I had to take a look. None of the
names looked familiar. There was a member of the genealogical society
there, who sugested that I go to the LDS Church. I did, and typed in
my ggrandfathers name.......it was all there. Then I went back to the
library to check the book again. As it turns out it was my familly. My
ggrandfather had moved from N.H. to Booneville, Oneida Co. N.Y. in
1820. the year my grandfather was born in Booneville, Oneida
Co. N.Y. and joined the Morman Church. From then I was hooked. In
looking for my mothers grandmother, I found a cousin a few times
removed, who told me my gggrandfather died in civil war and she had
guardianship papers for my greatgrandmother, after her mother
died. This kind woman sent me copies of those papers. For that I am
very greatful. Still have a few brick walls and mostly on my husbands
family. But I will keep looking.
