Now before any of you get your tail-feathers in the air, please don't send
any remarks - as one once did - that we are not here to teach. YES. We are.
That's how we all learn. What's the old Chinese proverb? It works so well
in genealogy. And I am always grateful for someone to lead me to a new
resource or teach me a new technique.

I have neither name in my family tree. But a suggestion to all ..... time
is so short for many of us who try to do 'volunteer' as well as handle
clients, perhaps an office job, etc. and our own genealogy, that we do not
have time to just send stuff out not knowing if it has a connection.

Even when the surname is unusual, a good idea, it seems to me, is to
1) if a general request ... in other words you just want everything ... is
to give the * SURNAME, MAJOR GEOGRAPHICAL AREA AND A TIME PERIOD. * Believe
me, it will normally bring better and quicker results because someone is
going, hopefully, to recognize it and respond.
I have to be honest --- without this I don't bother.
2) if a specific person you are looking for, then you should give the facts
... not a whole history but at least the person's full name (MAIDEN NAME OF
WOMEN please), the vitals, who, when, where md.
And very often as many on this list and other list have seen, even if
it's not my line I'll still try to help. But seldom do I take the time to
write back and say "please give us ...."

I try to help where I can but I have my own unfinished work to do, research
for others, organizational work, etc. Time simply does not allow. Please
help us to help you by giving some details.

Good luck!
   Trevia Wooster Beverly
   Houston, Texas
