Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Getting Started
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

A major health issue, in 1976, forced an early retirement and way too much
time on my hands. My mother, already into genealogy, directed me to the Maine
Province and Court records in an effort to pique my interest beyond names and
dates...and, they certainly were far more interesting than gothic novels,
particularly when quite a few in those records were my own ancestors.

Like so many, when I finally became interested, I neglected to note my
sources (although my mother had admonished me) - and eventually had to go back for
the information - including the repository where the records existed.

I still prefer to put my collected data into narrative form, citing every
single event - as well as including information on the history of the times and
area in which they lived. The great part about genealogy is the continual
learnng experience it provides as well as knowing the family history is the most
important legacy I can leave to my children and grandchildren.
